Description:
This workshop is designed to provide participants with practical and theoretical knowledge about percussion in Puerto Rican Bomba, specifically in the Mayagüez style. Through rhythmic exercises, history, and technique, students will develop essential skills to play the drums and understand the fundamental role of percussion in this musical tradition.
Main Objectives:
Explore the Characteristics of the Mayagüez Style
Identify the distinctive rhythmic patterns of Mayagüez Bomba
Understand the structure and dynamics of percussion in this style.
Develop Technique on Bomba Drums
Learn the posture, playing techniques, and variations on the barril primo and buleador.
Master practical exercises to improve precision and creativity.
Connect Percussion with Cultural Expression and Dance
Understand the relationship between the drum and the dancer in the context of improvisation.
Promote Appreciation and Preservation of the Tradition
Learn about the history and evolution of Bomba in Mayagüez and its cultural impact.
Value the importance of oral transmission and community practice in Bomba.

Este taller está diseñado para brindar a los participantes un conocimiento práctico y teórico sobre la percusión en la Bomba puertorriqueña, específicamente en su estilo mayagüezano. A través de ejercicios rítmicos, historia y técnica, los estudiantes desarrollarán habilidades esenciales para ejecutar los tambores y comprender el papel fundamental de la percusión en esta tradición musical.
Objetivos Principales:
1. Explorar las características del estilo mayagüezano
• Identificar los patrones rítmicos distintivos de la Bomba de Mayagüez.
• Comprender la estructura y la dinámica de la percusión en este estilo.
2. Desarrollar técnica en los tambores de Bomba
• Aprender la postura, el toque y las variaciones en el barril primo y buleador.
• Dominar ejercicios prácticos para mejorar precisión y creatividad.
3. Conectar la percusión con la expresión cultural y el baile
• Entender la relación entre el tambor y el bailador en el contexto de la improvisación.
4. Fomentar la apreciación y preservación de la tradición
